Meet the Therapist

Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT) or more commonly known as the St. John Method, is a specific bodywork approach to resolving soft tissue pain in the human body. The St. John Method embodies a wide variety of effective therapeutic techniques and applications that work toward restoring homeostasis (balance) between the muscular and nervous systems. It addresses the root cause of most pain conditions. 
NMT focuses on restoring correct posture, releasing nerve impingement &amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp; entrapment, eliminating trigger points, improving circulation, and enhancing the way we move. In short restoring structural balance to the muscular system.
Myofascial Release is a safe and very effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure into the Myofascial connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion. The focused manual pressure and stretching used in myofascial release therapy loosen up restricted movement, leading indirectly to reduced pain.
Multiple other modalities (massage techniques) may be added to your session to customize the treatment to your individual needs.

Therapeutic Massage(Includes Neuromuscular,Myofacial Release, & many other modalities)

Developed to help with muscle systems used for a particular sport, sports massage uses a variety of approaches to help athletes in training -- before, during, or after sports events. You might use it to promote flexibility and help prevent injuries. Or, it may help muscle strains, aiding healing after an injury. Note the 30 minute session is ideal to supplement your tween or teen sports regimen.

Sports Massage

Deep tissue massage involves applying firm pressure and slow strokes to reach deeper layers of muscle and fascia (the connective tissue surrounding muscles). While some of the strokes may feel the same as those used in Swedish massage therapy, deep tissue massage isn't a stronger version of a Swedish massage. At the beginning of a deep tissue massage, lighter pressure is generally applied to warm up and prepare the muscles. Specific techniques are then applied. Massage therapists may use fingertips, knuckles, hands, elbows, and forearms during a deep tissue massage. You may be asked to breathe deeply as the massage therapist works on tense areas.
After the massage, you may feel some stiffness or soreness, but it should subside within a day or so. Be sure to contact your massage therapist if you have concerns or if you feel pain after having a massage.
Drinking water after the massage may help to flush the metabolic waste from the tissues.

Deep Tissue Massage

Combining Swedish massage therapy with Aromatherapy: Involves soft, long, kneading strokes on topmost layers of muscles. By relieving muscle tension, Swedish therapy can be both relaxing and energizing. Aromatherapy is the practice of using the natural oils extracted from flowers, bark, stems, leaves, roots or other parts of a plant to enhance psychological and physical well-being. The inhaled aroma from these &amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;quot;essential&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;quot; oils is widely believed to stimulate brain function. Essential oils can also be absorbed through the skin, where they travel through the bloodstream and can promote whole-body healing. Research shows that aromatherapy can have health benefits including ease stress, anxiety, and depression; boost feelings of relaxation; improve sleep; help improve quality of life for people with long-term health problems like dementia; ease certain pain, including pain from kidney stones &amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp; osteoarthritis of the knee; fight bacteria when you put them on your skin; and ease some of the side effects of cancer treatment, like nausea and pain.

Relaxation Massage with Aromatherapy

During pregnancy, your body goes through major changes. Prenatal massage can help with these changes by reducing stress, decreasing arm and leg swelling, and relieving muscle and joint pain. Massage may be particularly helpful during a time when medication and other medical options may be more limited. Using specially designed massage table and pillows, you will be able to relax  comfortably for your massage. Prenatal safe essential oils are included to enhance relaxation and soothe muscles and ligaments.

Lymphatic Massage

Oncology massage is the adaptation of massage techniques to safely nurture the body of someone affected by cancer or its treatments.An oncology-trained therapist has completed comprehensive training in general massage therapy as well as additional specialized training that addresses the side effects of cancer or its various treatments.
Lymphatic massage, also called lymphatic drainage or manual lymph drainage, is a technique developed in Germany for treatment of lymphedema, an accumulation of fluid that can occur after lymph nodes are removed during surgery, most often a mastectomy for breast cancer. 
An oncology massage therapist will adapt massage techniques to safely meet the changing bodywork considerations during and after cancer treatment.Clinical research shows that massage can improve some cancer treatment side effects, namely perception of pain and anxiety.
